ACCESS TO SAILING

Enhancing diversity across the sailing community and greater popularity across the globe

Our Access work enables and encourages the take-up of sailing at all levels. Our focus is on promoting diversity across the sailing community, making sailing more accessible for all, and increasing participation across the sport.

THE ISSUE

Sailing is a sport which is uniquely accessible to everyone. However the sport is not as diverse as it could be, with many more men competing than women, socio-economic barriers still being perceived and faced, and Para Sailing not available to all those that benefit.

SOCIO-ECONOMIC BARRIERS

Sailing can be expensive, but there are affordable options.

We want to challenge this perception and provide opportunities to improve participation by providing opportunities for those that might face socio-economic barriers to participation.

GENDER DIVERSITY

Opportunities for women sailors at the Olympics are good, but outside this field there are far fewer options.

Our recent Women in Sailing Strategic Review highlighted a number of recommendations to create greater gender equity and we continue to work in this space.

ADAPTING SAILING FOR ALL

Only 40% of sailing nations have Para Sailing programmes. Developing successful Para Sailing programmes can support inclusion and opportunities for people with additional needs across society.

The exclusion of sailing from the Paralympic Games provides even more urgency for support to en chance and widen opportunities to participate in Para Sailing

PROJECT: WOMEN IN SAILING

Building a programme of work to support women and girls in sailing.

WE BELIEVE THERE IS SIGNIFICANT POTENTIAL TO IMPROVE ACCESS TO SAILING SO THAT MANY MORE PEOPLE CAN EXPERIENCE OUR SPORT.
