This privacy notice tells you about the information we collect and process concerning our digital and communication areas.

In collecting this information, we are acting as a data controller and, by law, we are required to provide you with information about us, about why and how we use your data, and about the rights you have over your data.

What personal data do we collect?

We collect the following information from those on our mailing lists:

  • Name
  • Email address
  • Phone number
  • Nationalities held
  • Country of residence
  • Social Media names
  • Age / date of birth
  • Gender
  • Survey responses (from time to time)

We also collect the handles of Twitter users who refer to World Sailing and/or World Sailing Trust and our media output (and the contents of their posts referring to us) via the sweeping service Meltwater.

Why do we collect this information?

We collect this information in order to conduct surveys, distribute our press releases, statements, ezines and other media information. We monitor posts on Twitter to determine what mentions of World Sailing and/or World Sailing Trust are being made.

What do we do with your information?

Your information will be shared with our related entities, World Sailing (UK) Limited and World Sailing Limited. Your information is stored in World Sailing databases which are only accessible by World Sailing staff. We do not share this information with third parties (except we may re-share/re-tweet out mentions of us).

We will not use the information to make any automated decisions that might affect you.

The above uses of information may involve the transfer of your personal data outside of the European Union. Where this occurs, the data will be transferred in a secure and encrypted state.

How long do we keep your information for?

We keep your information for as long as you continue wish to keep receiving information from us. If you unsubscribe, we will keep the historic record of your subscription but will not use it to contact you further.

If you wish us to delete the information, please contact us or click the unsubscribe link on our emails.

Your rights over your information

By law, you can ask us what information we hold about you, and you can ask us to correct it if it is inaccurate. You can also ask for it to be erased and you can ask for us to give you a copy of the information.

If we are processing your information based on your consent for us to do so, you can ask us to stop using your information by withdrawing your consent. You can do this by emailing, writing or telephoning us using the contact details above.
