Congratulations to the United States SailGP team for securing  a podium finish in the second season the SailGP Championships.

The final event, in the team’s home waters of San Francisco, was full of thrills and spills.  Just pipped to the post in the final race, it was remarkable that Jimmy Spithill’s US team managed to race at all following severe hull damage suffered when the Spanish team crashed into them on the opening race of the day.  The team’s rapid repair work ensured that they were back and racing, but it was not to be the fairy-tale ending so wished for by the team and the thousands of fans lining the San Francisco shoreline.

The World Sailing Trust has been working with the SailGP USA team as their Race for the Future partner alongside Rise to Win.  Initially through offering data and research support to their innovative Foiling First development programme, which looks to use foiling as a catalyst for change b the sport and priorities diversity and inclusivity in sailing, and more recently realigning its acclaimed Educational Sustainability materials for the USA Foiling First community.
Australia were the overall winners of the SailGP Championship for a second successive year, beating Japan and the United States in the Grand Final.
