The World Sailing Trust, the charitable arm of World Sailing, the international federation of the sport, has announced a charity funding partnership with the UK’s leading and fastest growing boat charter platform Borrow A Boat for 2020.
Borrow A Boat is the definitive marketplace for boat charter worldwide featuring peer-to-peer listings. Setup in 2016 by boat enthusiasts, it is currently listing over 20,000 boats in around 80 countries.
With Borrow A Boat’s focus on accessibility of boating, and their belief in spreading the awareness and tools on how to better protect the oceans, this was an ideal partnership to achieve our joint visions.
This partnership was solidified after a successful project with Borrow a Boat during the Southampton International Boat Show on Ocean Solutions Day. During this event and throughout the week, Borrow A Boat encouraged youth who visited their stand on site to sign an environmental pledge for the World Sailing Trust’s Ocean Heroes project.
Borrow a Boat’s main objectives with the World Sailing Trust for 2020 will be to develop sustainable charter guidelines for both charterers and boat owners/charter operators. This will outline ways in which to reduce any environmental impacts before, during, and after a charter holiday. They will also develop an online resource for boat owners to check how environmentally friendly they currently are, and what they could improve on the path to being more sustainable. This will be widely shared by the World Sailing Trust and Borrow A Boat across all channels, just in time for summer 2020.
World Sailing Trust Chair, Dee Caffari, commented: “Borrow A Boat share our vision to preserve the waters that our sport is dependent on and to make the sport accessible for all. We are delighted to partner with Borrow A Boat and look forward to making a positive impact.”
Borrow A Boat CEO Matt Ovenden commented: “There is really very strong alignment in the aims of the World Sailing Trust and Borrow A Boat – with a background in sustainability myself, I’m delighted to be partnering with the World Sailing Trust on safeguarding our oceans as well the aims of improving access to boating and encouraging youth participation which are core to Borrow A Boat’s mission.”
